Rev. John Courage inducted new rector of Random parish

The Rev. John Courage was inducted as the new rector of the parish of Random by the Rev. Rev. Martin Mate on Saturday, Oct. 8. The induction service was attended by the Rev. Stephen Adkins, rural dean; the Rev. David Hewitt, rector of Heart’s Delight parish; the Rev. Allan Brake, rector of Norman’s Cove parish; the Rev. Doug Barrett, rector of New Harbour parish; and the Rev. J.W. Taylor, who acted as the bishop’s chaplain, as well as lay readers, members of choirs, members of the St. Aidan’s congregation and visitors from outside the area. The guest preacher was the Rev. Jeff Rossiter.

Rev. Courage was educated in St. John’s. He received his B.A. at Memorial University in St. John’s and M. Div. from the Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax. He was the former rector of the Parish of Cartwright, Labrador. He is married to the former Heather Chafe, who has been a teacher with the Bonavista, Trinity, Placentia School Board, at Bonavista, Shoal Harbour and Hickman’s Harbour.

The parish of Random consists of the congregation at Hatchet Cove, Hillview, North West Brook, Sunnyside, Queen’s Cove, Long Beach, Hodge’s Cove, Little Heart’s Ease and Great Heart’s Ease.

Following the induction service on Oct 8., the ACW of Sunnyside hosted a reception for their new priest.
