Southwest Arm to host unveiling of 15 retractable banners
The Southwest Arm Historical Society, along with Royal Canadian Legion Clarenville Branch and Southwest Arm Academy school will be unveiling 15 retractable banners honouring 26 soldiers from the Southwest Arm region on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m. open to the public.
The event will be followed by a social for invited guests at the Salvation Army Citadel. The assembly will be at Southwest Arm Academy in Little Heart’s Ease.
The ceremony will honour 26 soldiers from the Southwest Arm region who served their King and Country during the First World War.
During the ceremonies 15 retractable banners will be unveiled that will reveal their stories. The stories of these men were published in The Packet over a period of four months this year and can be viewed under the series, “Where Once They Served”.
The stories vary from those who went overseas but did not return; those that returned with both physical and mental scars and those who served at home completing special duties.
At the Salvation Army Citadel there will be a variety of articles, photos, and other displays illustrating the stories of these soldiers and the time period.
