Southwest Arm Soldiers
Armistice Day is fast approaching and numerous facilities throughout this country are being prepared to commemorate the sacrifice made by Canadians and Newfoundlanders throughout the various wars that have plagued the world.
People will be wearing Poppies as a symbol that they remember individuals that served their country valiantly.
Crowds will gather at cenotaphs and churches, lists of names of those who made the ultimate sacrifices will be read.
People will talk about stories of their relatives that were handed down in family history. One can easily observe the absence of veterans from the World Wars and it is up to those left behind to keep those memories alive.
I am appealing to any of the readers in the Packet region or on the Internet to closely examine the list of soldiers from the Royal Newfoundland Regiment who served from the Southwest Arm area.
I am collecting information on each of these soldiers and would like to eventually reveal their experience in World War I.
Your family might have a photo, medals, newspaper clippings, etc. that may reveal information.
You may also know what happened to these individuals when they returned from the war. This might include their spouse, children, where they moved to upon their return, or the profession they may have pursued.
After carefully reading this list, if you recognize any of these individuals please contact me. I encourage you to email us at info@swahsociety.com.
