Southport Women Win Dory Race

Reprinted from The Packet, September 4, 1980

The girls from Southport showed everyone the proper way to row your boat this past summer.

The girls entered races at Hodge’s Cove, Clarenville Southern Harbour and Arnold’s Cove and came up winners in all four. This year was the third consecutive year winning in Hodge’s Cove and their second in Clarenville. This was their first year entering at Southern Harbour and Arnold’s Cove

The trio Frances Kelly, Debbie Avery, and Laura Lambert who were sponsored by Dean’s Variety would like to thank the Lion’s Club in each of the four towns, also the people of Southern Harbour, Mr. Bill Hickey, Mrs. G. Ryan and especially Lloyd Dean of Dean’s Variety for all their help.

The girls are looking forward to next summer when they can once again dip their oars in the water.
