July 1st has a double meaning for the people of Newfoundland and Labrador – we celebrate both Memorial Day and Canada Day.
Memorial Day commemorates the losses to the Royal Newfoundland Regiment at Beaumont-Hamel. Let us take this moment to reflect on all those who served during WWI and WWII. Wear a Forget-Me-Not lapel pin on July 1st to remember all who served or are serving.
The Southwest Arm Memorial Day Service will be held on July 1st at 10:50 a.m. at the Southwest Arm War Memorial, Hodge’s Cove. Everyone is welcome.
If you wish to lay a wreath at the service please contact Max Peddle at 425-3324.
Do you also intend to remember those of the Newfoundland Overseas Forrestry Unit?
Hi Phyllis
Yes we are currently finishing up on a project about the men from Southwest Arm who were members of the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit.
