SMOKED HERRING FROM NEWFOUNDLAND
Mr. John Clouston Resumes Activities In Smoking And Curing Newfoundland Herring
ST. JOHN’S – In the past a very superior article in smoked Newfoundland herring was put up by Mr. John Clouston of this city, but for one reason or another, the industry was suspended the past two or three years. We understand that Mr. Clouston this winter has again engaged in the work, the scene of his activities being at Little Heart’s Ease.
Mr. Clouston has several fishermen at work as well as a number of hands in the factory, and has an assured market in New York for all the fish he can process. We further learn that he has introduced some new ideas into the industry tending to greatly improve the quality.
The consumers of this class of herring, and they were many in St. John’s, remember what an excellent article Mr. Clouston turned out and will wish the venture well. This is an industry capable of great expansion, and it is hoped that the promoter’s best hopes for it will be realized.
