DROVER, Sarah (Sally) Frances (nee Barfitt) – Passed away at Hodge’s Cove on May 23rd [1968] Mrs. Eliol Drover, age 53 years leaving to mourn besides her husband thirteen children, six sons and seven daughters. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Llewellyn Barfitt of Clarenville; 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She was laid to rest in the Anglican Cemetery at Hodge’s Cove. GREEN, Adam – The community of New Perlican and surrounding area was shocked to hear of the sudden passing of Adam Green at his home in New Perlican, October 28 [1962]. Mr. Green was in his 76th year. Uncle Adam, as he was generally known, came to reside here from St. Jones Without, Trinity Bay ten years ago. He began fishing when 11 years of age and this year had completed 66 years in that occupation. He was a sincere friend to all who knew him, and many mourned at his passing. His was indeed a life of charity to all men. He leaves to mourn: his wife, the former Annie Jacobs of Little Heart’s Ease, Trinity Bay; three sons: George of Clarenville; Wallace of Little Heart’s Ease; and William of Little Heart’s Ease; one daughter: Melita, Mrs. Clarence Jacobs, Clarenville; one brother: Leander Green of Sunnyside and three sisters: Rachael Jane, Mrs. Robert Piercey, of New Perlican; Jessie, Mrs. Jethro Green of Sunnyside and Mary Ellen, Mrs. Eugene Barrett of Sydney, NS. The funeral took place at New Perlican in St. Augustine’s Anglican Church, Oct. 28 [1962]. The officiant was Rev. H.M. Batten R.D., Parish Priest. The large attendance at the funeral, and the many floral tributes were evidence of the esteem in which Mr. Green was held in this settlement and elsewhere. The L.O.A., of which he was an honorary member, attended in a body. Interment was in the Anglican cemetery, New Perlican. HASTINGS, Kenneth – The sad news was received here on April 28 [1968] of the sudden death of Kenneth Hastings, Brandford, Ont., who was killed instantly on April 27 [1968] when he was struck by a passing car. Mr. Hastings accompanied by his brother Melvin had just left the Church after attending the marriage of their brother Ralph. His brother Melvin is in critical condition in hospital. He was married to the former Lovetta Vey of Hillview, the daughter of Mrs. Mildred and the late Kenneth Vey. She has three children, two girls and a boy. IVANY, William – Entered into rest at the General Hospital, William Ivany. aged 83 years, formerly of St. Jones Within, T.B. Remains resting at Oke’s Funeral Home, 125 Quidi Vidi Road until 10:30 this morning [September 7, 1962], and thence by the noon train to Goobies en route to St. Jones Within. MURPHY, Minnie (nee Seward) – Death visited Hodge’s Cove on May 1st and claimed for its own the life of Mrs. Minnie Murphy. Mrs. Murphy was born at Gooseberry Cove 84 years ago. She has been living at Hodge’s Cove with her daughter Mrs. William J. Peddle for a number of years. She was a very staunch Chureh Worker, and was a member of the A.W.A. of Hodge’s Cove and also a member of Great Heart’s Ease A.W.A. Members of both places attended in a body to pay their last respects to an old lady who was much liked and respected by everyone who knew her. Since she has been living at Hodge’s Cove she did much handiwork for both Churches including cushions and crocheted cloths which was sold to raise ffunds for the Churches. She leaves to mour one son Joseph Spurrell of Butter Cove and three daughters Olivia (Mrs. Albert Drover) Hodge’s Cove, Sarah (Mrs. Robert Spurell) Butter Cove and Annie (Mrs. William J. Peddle) Hodge’s Cove with whom she resided. The funeral took place from her daughter’s home to the Anglican Church. She was laid to rest in the Anglican Cemetery Hodge’s Cove. NORRIS, Jessie Annie (nee Drodge) – Passed peacefully away at the General Hospital on Wednesday, May 17th, Jessie Anne Norris, aged 77 years. Left to mourn are three daughters. Lydia (Mrs. Newman Benson), Janie (Mrs. George Anstey), Minnie (Mrs. Fred Dodd), all at St. John’s, to sons, Jonah of St. John’s and William of Clarenville, one sister, Mrs. Solomon Martin, two brothers, William and Simeon Drodge, all at Little Heart’s Ease, T.B. Also fourteen grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The funeral will take place at 2.30 p.m. on Friday, May 19th from Carnell’s Funeral Home, 28 Cochrane Street., to Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

STRINGER, Jessie (nee Drodge) – Sister Mrs. Thomas Stringer, of Clarenville, Nfld., served as company guard and the young people’s sergeant-major of Little Heart’s Ease, before transferring to Clarenville Corps, where her interest in the home league and other corps activities was maintained.
