FOX HARBOR. Editor Daily News.
Dear Sir,—You never seem to get any notes from this settlement and so I propose intruding a little on the columns of your esteemed paper. The following items may be interesting. Fox Harbor lies about four miles west of the Eastern Head light House, and is one of the snuggest little harbors in the country, being just at the mouth of Random Sound. A great many people running for shelter are in dread of a shoal in the centre of the narrows, but it is easily avoided, and once inside, no better anchorage could be desired.
On the 4th inst. we had a grand demonstration over the launching of Captain Richard Seward’s New Schooner which was christened the “Compania.” Men, women and children, assembled from all quarters nearby and boarded her and crowded the decks, where dancing was enjoyed until the good ship glided gracefully into the water. This schooner is a credit to her builder, and I venture to say will make a reputation for herself as a fast sailor that may justly be envied. She was built for and will be sailed by Captain Seward’s son William, a young man of 20 years, who is also reported to be taking a wife this spring. May “Billy” be successful with both.
Times are good here, thanks to our present progressive Government for the able way they handle the country’s business.
We are glad to be able to congratulate Hon. A. B. Morine upon his re-instatement to office. Everyone of us appreciate the Tory Government.
Seed potatoes are scarce this season, which is somewhat of a drawback.
When the House opens we intend to petition for a telegraph office on this neck, we are sure the South Shore will coincide with us and have it in the most suitable place so that the interests of all may be attended to. We are glad at the prospect of early steam communication and rejoice to have Captain Ash in command. This service will be one of great usefulness to all the bay and reflects credit on the Government who arranged for it. Trinity Bay is pleaded with and proud of the present Government.— Com.
