Remembrance Day 2025

On Remembrance Day, the Southwest Arm Historical Society will be be holding a special ceremony at the Southwest Arm War Memorial, Hodge’s Cove, honouring military women of the Southwest Arm. If any of these women are available to attend, please let us know, as we would be honoured to have them participate in the ceremony.

    With Three Flagpoles
If you are using three separate flagpoles of equal height (the standard protocol):
The National Flag of Canada is in the position of honour, which is the centre flagpole when an observer is facing the display.
The Newfoundland and Labrador flag (the second-ranking flag in this group) is placed on the observer’s left.
The Union Jack is placed on the observer’s right.

Those are the (Rules for flying the National Flag of Canada) for flying flags in Canada. I would like to have the flags change at the Southwest Arm War Memorial in Hodge’s Cove. For me it is a insult to the members who Service our Province and Country and give there life for our freedom.
    Thank You

    • Hi Tony,
Have you checked on the Government of Canada site or check photos of the National War Memorial in St. John’s to see how the flags are placed? We place ours the same way. The Southwest Arm Historical Society has worked extremely hard to have our War Memorial installed to honour all those veterans from our area who have served and, if you follow our posts you would know that. There is absolutely nothing we would do to insult those who have served our country and we have the utmost respect for them.
