Lumberwoods – Twillingate Sun 1949

A correspondent at Badger writing in the Western Star makes mention of three outstanding woodsmen presently employed at A.N.D. Camps in that division.

Wilfred Porter of Sansome’s Island, working at Walter Strickland’s camp, in 13 days cut 39.53 cords of wood and made $183.64 – daily average of 3.04 cords for which he received $14.13.

Halstead Goss of Queen’s Cove, working at James Wicken’s camp, in 11 days cut 35.03 cords and earned $147.13 – daily average 3.18 cords, earnings $13.38.

George Seward of Gooseberry Cove, at William Pope’s camp, in 13 days cut 41.19 cords and earned $184.42. His daily cut 3.16 cords was a little less than that of highliner Goss but average earnings – $14.19 – eighty one cents a day more.
