Committed on Murder Charge

Reprinted from the Evening Telegram,

This forenoon Albert George Benson, 26 years old, laborer, of St. Jones’ Within, was committed for trail at the ensuing term of the Supreme Court. The original charge against the prisoner was manslaughter but on Saturday at the termination of the preliminary enquiry, the Crown asked to have the charge amended to that of murder. Benson is charged with the murder of his ten year old nephew, John Sheppard. Should the grand jury bring in a true bill it is not probable that the matter will come up for trail before the March term.
