  • The U.C. School held their annual field day on June 20. This year the pupils participated in the centennial awards program. The results were encouraging and proved to everyone in this area that a sound physical education program should be carried out every year in the school. The program was directed by the teacher and several parents from this community
  • The day started with the children singing ‘O Canada’ while the flag was being raised. They then paraded through the community with flags flying and banners and ribbons and horns blasting. After the parade the school canteen was opened and a variety of refreshments were served. The rest of the day was mostly taken up running for the Centennial Awards, but sufficient time lasted to see some of the parents, along with the children, get into sack racing, stone throwing, egg racing and several other amusing incidents which provided everyone with such excitement and many unforgettable laughs. During the night a party was held in the school by the ladies of the community for the teacher, Mr. Goobie, and the pupils. After supper was served, diplomas were presented. This year will be long remembered by the pupils especially because of having such a distringuished guest as Mrs. Maud Burton from New Jersey, USA to be their guest speaker, and to present their diplomas to them. Mrs. Burton and her sister Mrs. Florence Snow are vacationing with their sister Delilah and brother Richard. After diplomas were given out, Mrs. Burton called on Mr. Goobie to accept, on behalf of the people from Queen’s Cove, a large sum of money as a token of thanks to him for his patience and interest shown in the pupils, school and community for the past two years. He is leaving Queen’s Cove to take up duties as Principal at Port Blandford, and this community wishes him all the best and realizes that Port Blandford’s gain is indeed a great loss to Queen’s Cove.

Page 58 – In Memoriam

In loving memory of our daughter Suzette Loder accidently killed, August 6, 1966, age 3 years 5 days.

Two little hands are resting
A little heart is still
A little daughter we loved is waiting
For us just over the hill.

A little lamb too sweet and pure
Upon this earth to roam,
An angel came so silently
And took our dear child home.

We miss her love and cheery ways
With her we spent our happiest days,
In memory we see her the same
As long as we live, we’ll cherish her name.

Away in the beautiful hills of God,
By the valley of rest so fair,
Some day, we know not when
We will meet our loved one there.

Ever remembered and sadly missed by mommy, daddy, brother Ricky and grandmother Loder.
