Page 31 – Hatchet Cove

  • Spending holidays with Mr. and Mrs. John Bishop were their daughter Ruby from the mainland and their son John and his wife from Labrador City.
  • On the 18th of October a farewell party was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Bishop for Ruby. The 20 guests in attendance spent an enjoyable time.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Eliab Blundon were recently visited by their daughter Venie Vey and her husband Reg, daughter Helda and husband Ike Smith, son Ron and wife Phyllis, son George and wife Gloria, son John and wife Flo and also their daughter Gladys.
  • Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Lambert recently was Malcolm’s sister Mary from Happy Valley. This was their first visit together in 10 years. Mary has since left for St. John, N.B. where she will take up duties as a sales clerk.
  • A baby girl was born at the Walwyn Hospital on October 21 to Mr. and Mrs. James Avery.
  • October birthdays were Pauline Lambert – 20th; Eva Smith and Benoni Robbins – 25th; Sarah Jane Lambert – 29th; Laurence Bishop – 31st.

 

Page 36 – St. Jones Within

  • Mr. Guy King returned home from Walwyn Hospital, Mr. Wm. J. King from St. John’s Hospital and Willie King from Gander Hospital where they received treatment.
  • Mrs. Wesley King and baby are residing in Labrador City where her husband works.
  • Misses Jean and Elva Robbins, Toronto, spent a holiday with their parents. While home, they attended the funeral of their grandmother, Mrs. Belinda Robbins.
  • Mrs. Harold Tucker had a visit from her sister Ruby Bishop, Toronto. Ruby was vacationing witrh her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Bishop of Hatchet Cove.
  • Mrs. Doris Hillyard is spending a holiday with her sister Marjorie (Mrs. Munden Reid) at Gander.
  • Mrs. Alice King received news recently about her daughter Florence (Mrs. Cyril Locke) of Calgary, Alberta, who is seriously ill in hospital there. Many friends wish her a speedy recovery.
  • Mrs. David Benson is still confined to her bed. Her many friends wish her well and up around again soon.
  • Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. David Benson who celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on December 19th. Greetings from Mr. and Mrs. Lester Grandy and family.

 

Page 48 – Deaths

We were sorry to hear that Mrs. Belinda Robbins of Hatchet Cove died at her home on October 22 at the age of 95. She leaves to mourn four sons, Benoni at Hatchet Cove, William at St. Jones Within, Eli John at Broad Cove and Steven with whom she resided; three daugthers Mrs. George Goobie, Queen’s Cove, Alice Mrs. Nath Smith, Hatchet Cove, and Sarah Jane Mrs. Malcolm Lambert, Hatchet Cove, 39 grandchildren, 91 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren.

Passed away at Sarasota, Florida, Joshua Butt, son of the late George and Eliza Butt, Queen’s Cove. He is survived by his wife Anna, Sarasota and 3 sons Capt. Ronald Butt, US Marine Corps Viet Nam; George T. of McCoy AFB Orlando, Fla; Dudley, Sarasota; 2 brothers Wm. J. Sarasota; Andrew, North West Brook, 2 sisters Mrs. Albert Pont, NY, USA; and Mrs. Moses Martin, North West Brook.
