Page 31 – Hatchet Cove
- Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Robbins and family and Mr. and Mrs. Ron Robbins and family, all of St. John’s, visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Benoni Robins over Christmas.
- Myra and Ena Smith visited their parents Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel Smith at Christmas time.
- Melvin Brown returned home from Toronto for the holidays. He has since returned accompanied by his father.
- Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Smith visited Mrs. Smith’s sister, Mrs. Freeman Curtis. While visiting Mr. Smith was rushed to the Walwyn Hospital where he is still receiving treatment. He is wished a speedy recovery from his many friends and relatives.
- The following went away to spend Christmas: Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Lambert were in Catalina with their daughter, Mrs. John Duffett; Mr. and Mrs. Eliab Blundon spent it with their 3 sons, John, George, and Ronald and their families at Gander; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Smith and family motored to Gander Bay to visit Mrs. Smith’s sisters and brother.
- The A.W.A. held their sale of work, tea, fish pond, and parcel post raising $165.00 in aid of their new church.
- Twins, a boy weighing in at 6 – 14 and a girl weighing 6 – 4, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Robbins at the Walwyn Hospital on January 7. The twins have been named Roderick Colin and Roma Coleen.
- A house warming party was given to Mr. and Mrs. William Smith. Mrs. Smith received many useful gifts from the 14 ladies who attended. Lunch was served and a very enjoyable evening spent by all.
- Wedding anniversaries – Mr. and Mrs. Steven Robbins their 37th on January 17. Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Curtis their 16th on January 29.
- Members of the L.O.L. from St. Jones Within and Hatchet Cove had their Annual Parade on December 31. They paraded at Hatchet Cove after which dinner was served at their homes. Visiting members on parade were Max Mercer, St. John’s who took pictures, Walter Drover, Hodge’s Cove, and Walter Ivany, Windsor. After the parade they returned to St. Jones Within where tea was served and a dance held.
- Terry Currie is receiving treatment at the Janeway Hospital, St.John’s. All his school friends wish him a speedy recovery so he will soon be home.

- The United Church Women with to thank all who made their sale of Turkey suppers a success.
- Visitors during Christmas to Mrs. Harold Tucker were her sister Beulah, husband and 2 children from Anchor Point.
- Mr.and Mrs. David Price and son of Windsor recently visited Mr. and Mrs. Albert Benson.
- Mr. and Mrs. Alwin Price and Darlene spent a few holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Price at Windsor.
- Mr. and Mrs. James Brown and family spent their Xmas holidays with Mrs. Brown’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Walter Drover at Hodge’s Cove.
- Gilbert, Audrey and Cora King spent a few days on Bell Island. They also visited Gilbert’s sister Mrs. Cyril Locke who is seriously ill at the General Hospital in St. John’s.
- Mrs. Harold Tucker has returned home after being a patient at the Grace General Hospital.
- A welcome is extended to Miss Legge, the primary teacher.
- The C.G.I.T. which is newly formed, held a Social and Dance in the Orange Lodge during Xmas. It proved very success.
- Visitors to this community during Xmas were: Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Tulk; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ivany; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Grundy and daughter; Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tucker and family from Ontario; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Robbins from Fortune; Mr. and Mrs. Eli Tucker and family from St. John’s; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hollett; Mr. and Mrs. Munden Reid and family from Gander.
- John Robbins, Toronto is spending the winter with his parents Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Robbins.
- Mr. Boyd King is spending the winter months with his daughter Annie at Winterton.
- Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Tucker and family spent the Xmas holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Wm. John King.
- Birthday greeting to Beulah Tucker who celebrates her birthday on February 7.
