  • Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Green of Deep Bight are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Hazel May to David Lloyd Stoyles of Hillview
  • The engagement is announced in Toronto of Lillian, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Walters of Champneys, to Ronald, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Spurrell of Butter Cove.

Page 42 – North West Brook

  • Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Branton recently celebrated their 2nd wedding anniversary.
  • Mrs. William Norris recently visited friends and relatives at Corner Brook and Deer Lake. She was accompanied by Mrs. Frank Norris who visited her son and daughter and their families at Deer Lake. They returned home with Mr. Walter Norris who was employed at Black Duck and came home for the weekend.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Follett are the proud parents of a boy born to them at the Walwyn on May 1st.
  • Deepest sympathy is extended to the relatives of Mr. Jack Campbell who passed away at Deer Lake.
  • Mr. Walter Smith is presently in hospital at St. John’s.
  • Miss Matilda Norris, who is attending school at Windsor, recently spent a weekend home.
  • Mrs. Lionel Norris recently spent a few days in St. John’s.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hussey of St. John’s attended the funeral of Mrs. Gosse and paid a brief visit to Mrs. Hussey’s sister Mrs. Wm. Norris. Also Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Norris, Glenwood were guests of Mrs. William Norris.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Moses Martin spent a week as guests of Mrs. Wm. Norris.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Brown recently visited their son and family at Glovertown.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Charles Churchill of Grand Falls recently visited Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Soper
  • Mr. and Mrs. George Norris recently visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. John Norris.
  • Miss Geraldine Bailey is visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bailey.

 

Page 46 – Queen’s Cove

  • Mr. Charlie Churchill of Windsor visited his sister Mrs. William Goobie.
  • A ‘stork shower’ was held for Mrs. Harry Vey and Mrs. Roy Goobie at the home of Mrs. Ira Goobie. A large crowd attended and the gifts were opened by Mrs. Ira Goobie and cards read by Mrs. Arthur Goobie.
  • Returned home – Mr. Albert House has returned from Churchill Falls where he was employed.
  • Wedding – a very pretty wedding took place on April 14th when Glennis Spurrell of Queen’s Cove and Cyril Strowbridge of Clarenville were married in the Anglican Church at Queen’s Cove. The reception was held in the LOA Hall.
  • Out of town – Mrs. John Goobie, accompanied by her son Jim, visited St. John’s recently. While there she visited Mrs. Silas Gosse who is a patient at the General Hospital.
  • Mrs. Harvey Gregory spent a few days with her son and daughter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Roy Gregory of St. John’s.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Halstead Gosse visited St. John’s.
  • Miss Dianne Gosse will soon be off to Toronto where she will be employed. Good luck Diane!
  • Deepest sympathy – is extended to Mr. Eleazer Gosse and family on the passing of a dear wife and mother on April 15, at the General.
  • Visited – Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Gregory and family visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Gregory.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Butler and family visited her parents Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Gosse.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Chesley Goobie have returned home from St. John’s where Mr. Goobie was employed.
  • Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Martin and family of St. John’s visited their daughter-in-law and grandchildren of Little Heart’s Ease. They also visited their daughter and son-in-law and family Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Goobie of Queen’s Cove and Mr. Martin’s sister Mrs. Wilson Baker of Caplin Cove.

  • Visiting Miss Avery recently were Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Churchill of Grand Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Forward and two daughters; Mr. and Mrs. Nath Cooper and daughter, all of St. John’s, and Mr. and Mrs. G. Benson of Columbus, Ohio.
  • Miss L.M. Avery visited her brothers William and Ernest at Grates Cove.
  • A ‘stork shower’ was given Mrs. Roy Stoyles recently.
  • A surprise party was given Mrs. Clayton Frost on the occasion of her birthday.
  • Another surprise party was also held for Mrs. Max Stoyles.
  • Eleven year old Delphine Marsh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Avalon Marsh underwent surgery at St. Clare’s Hospital, St. John’s.
  • A son was born at Markland Hospital on April 16 to Mr. and Mrs. Baxter Smith of Blaketown.
  • Congratulations are extended to the hockey players of Hodge’s Cove on their success in winning the trophy.
  • Sincere sympathy goes to the family and friends of Mrs. Elizabeth Churchill of Hodge’s Cove, age 73, who passed away at the home of her daughter Mrs. Joseph Spurrell, Butter Cove. The funeral took place from her daughter’s home and burial was from the United Church, Hodge’s Cove to the U.C. Cemetery. The service was conducted by Rev. G.W. Ethbridge of the Anglican Mission of Random.
  • Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Roy Stoyles on the birth of a son at Walwyn Hospital on Mary 3rd.

  • Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Levi Churchill on the birth of a baby girl at the Walwyn Hospital.
  • A ‘stork shower’ was held in the Anglican School for Mrs. George Vey. Gifts were opened by Gwen Peddle and cards read by Sylvia Vey.
  • A ‘stork shower’ was held for Mrs. Norman Avery at the home of her sister-in-law Mrs. Donald Smith. An enjoyable evening was spent by all.
  • The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Smith received names Barbara Amelia at the Anglican Church.
  • Deepest sympathy is extended to Mrs. George Barfett on the death of her mother Mrs. John Churchill of Hodge’s Cove.
