Page 45 – In Memoriam

In fond remembrance of our dear mother Elizabeth Churchill, Hodge’s Cove, who passed away April 26, 1967, aged 73

We lost our darling mother, her face we’ll see no more,
We trust she dwells in Heaven above, with loved ones gone before.
We prayed for her recovery, when on our knees we knelt,
But Providence willed it other-wise, and we must be content.

Our thoughts are often with her, there are many a hidden tear,
As we walk into the home-stead; and see the vacant chair.
We wander back in memory, to the days when we were young,
When she held us in her loving arms at the hour of setting sun.

And taught to us that well known prayer, while our thoughts from care were free,
We repeated the words in childish tone as we knelt beside her knee
Just one year ago she left us, still our loss we deeply feel,
It was God who had bereft us, He can all our sorrows heal.

Composed by Mrs. Ben Smth Hillview, requested by Mrs. Joseph Spurrell, Butter Cove and Mrs. George Barfitt of Long Beach.

In loving memory of a dear Father Thomas Drodge, who died May 12, 1940, age 65 years.

Gone from us his loving face,
And his pleasant cheerful ways;
A heart that won so many friends
In bygone happy days;
Just a token of love and remembrance,
To a father who was one of the best,
The joys that he missed on life’s highway,
May he find in God’s garden of rest.

Always remembered by his daughters Miriam, Sadie, Dorothy and son Norman.
