Page 5 – Mrs. Alex Vey, the former Shirley Hunt of Clarenville and daughter left Torbay by plane for Labrador City where they will reside. Her husband Alex, has been working there for the past several months.
Page 32 – Mr. Ben Smith of Hillview who is a veteran of the first world war celebrated his 71st birthday on February 12th. He resides with his wife in Hillview and they have three sons and four daughters including Mrs. Maisie Ploughman of Clarenville.
Page 43 – North West Brook
- Mr. William Smith celebrated his 75th birthday on February 19th. The occasion was celebrated by his family with four year old grandson Jerry blowing out the candles.
- Mr. Samuel Brown was a patient in Come by Change Hospital recently.
- Mr. Isaac Soper Sr. recently spent some time in the General Hospital.
- Mrs. A. Brace is a patient at the Gander Hospital
- Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Butt and daughter Nancy recently visited Mr. and Mrs. John Butt at Pools Cove. Their daughter Mrs. Val Butt and family accompanied them as far as Gambo where they spent the weekend with her parents.
- Mr. and Mrs. Lenwall Vivian and family recently moved to St. John’s where Lenwall is employed.
- Shinstone, brother of Mrs. Pastor Callahan, recently visited here for a weekend. Also visiting was Pastor J. Whalen, who stays with his son at Grand Falls. He was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Norris.
- Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brown visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Brown.
- Calvin Baker spent a few days home with his mother Mrs. Samuel Baker.
- Mr. Nalance Butt was here from Port aux Basque for a weekend.
- Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Churchill of Grand Falls recently paid a brief visit to Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Soper
- Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Cooper are the proud grandparents of a baby girl born to their daughter Maureen, Mrs. Lon Pike of Stephenville. They have been visiting her since Christmas.
- A baby girl was born to Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bursey at the Walwyn Hospital.
- Clara Bernice, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. Bursey was christened at the United Church by Rev. Parsons.
- Pastor and Mrs. R. Callahan visited Lawrenceton recently.
- A ‘stork’ shower was held for Ella, Mrs. Roy Goobie, at the home of her mother Mrs. Joseph Cramm.
- Doris Norris recently went to St. John’s to seek employement
Page 43 – Hillview
- A Parent Teacher Association was inaugurated at Hillview on Februay 21st, 1966. The meeting was opened by Mr. Ernest Parsons, U.C. Minister, who also conducted the election of officers which resulted as follows: President – Mr. Herbert Stanford; Vice President – Mrs. Meta Churchill; Secretary – Mrs. Doreen Avery; Treasurer – Mrs. Stella Stanford; fifth member of executive – Mrs. Joyce Frost. The meeting was well attended by both United Church and Anglican parents of the community as well as the three teachers – Principal Raymond Robbins, Clyde Hapgood, Mrs. Vera Lambert. After concluding the business for the evening a lunch was served.
- The funeral of Murdock Baker took place in the U.C. Church on Thursday, February 17th., with a very large congregation present. Murdock was a passenger in a car which overturned on the TCH on February 15th. His sister, Wavy Lou, who was injured in the same accident is improving. Here for the funeral was the victim’s sister Angela of Corner Brook. She will be remaining here for a few months. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Baker of St. John’s were also here for the service. Mr. Baker is an uncle of the deceased.
- Friends of Mr. Ulysses Lambert of Southport are glad to hear that he is improving after being seriously ill.
- The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Critch was christened in the Anglican Church and was given the names Muriel Wanda.
- The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Critch was named Melvin Cecil.
