Wedding Bells
The marriage was solemnized at St. Alban’s Church, Gooseberry Cove on April 30, of Mary, daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. J. E. Smith, to Arthur Spurrell of Butter Cove. Reverend M. C. Jones officiated. The bride, attired , in the traditional wedding gown and floor length veil, was given in marriage by her father and was attended by Miss Nellie Smith and Miss Blanche Seward, both of whom wore gowns of blue with shoulder length veils. After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride. Best wishes are extended to the happy couple.
The wedding took place at Hillview on Easter Monday, of Edna Stoyles to Chesley Pittman of Hatchet Cove.
On April 24 Daisy Baker and David Stoyles, both of Hillview were united in matrimony.
Personals
Among the recent arrivals from England are Mr. and Mrs. Nickie Avery, Hillview. Mrs. Avery was formerly Miss Doreen Johnson of Stockton-on-tees, Mr. and Mrs. George Loader, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Churchill and two children, Kenneth Loader, of Hillview and Joshua Goobie of Queen’s Cove.
E. Evans of the Co-operative Society arrived here recently from Hodge’s Cove, en l route to his home at Gambo.
Doctor Coxon arrived here on Sunday following a business visit to Little Heart’s Ease.
Miss Nellie Smith of Southport spent two days here visiting Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Button. She has since taken up a position at the Cottage Hospital at Stephenville.
Mrs. Lester Stoyles arrived from Cambridge, Scotland on Friday, May 8. Mrs. Stoyles was formerly Miss Trixie Calder and she met her husband while he was serving with the Forestry Division. She will take up temporary residence with Lester’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Stoyles, Northern Bight Station.
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Button returned from Cornel Brook recently. Mr. Button had been attending the sessions of the Grand Lodge.
Mrs. J. T. Stoyles who had been spending a few days with her daughter, Mrs. Max Pinsent of Windsor, returned to Northern Bight recently.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Gregory, accompanied by their son, arrived from Corner Brook a short time ago. Mr. Gregory will be returning to Corner Brook in the near future.
Misses Marguerite and Lilly Stoyles of Northern Bight paid a brief visit to Windsor recently.
Sergeant Mac Newman of the Repeater Station, Shoal Harbour, visited Northern Bight some time ago.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Adey, of Adeyton, visited Queen’s’ Cove over the weekend.
Joshua Goobie, son of George Goobie and the late Mrs. Goobie, who arrived from overseas recently is now visiting St. John’s.
George Brown, motor mechanic at Clarenville, spent Thursday at Queen’s Cove.
Miss Mildred Goobie is at present spending a holiday with friends in St. John’s.
Obituary
There passed away at Gooseberry Cove on April 20, Gladys, wife of John Smith. Her death followed a lengthy illness, and left to mourn are her husband and eight children.
The death occurred at Adeyton on April 10, of Mrs. Ed. Harris at the age of 72. Interment took place at Adeyton. Deepest sympathy is extended to her sorrowing husband.
