Page 11 – Accident Kills One – Injures Four
A two car collision on the Trans-Canada Highway on Saturday night, December 11th caused the death of one person and injured four others, two of whom are in the General Hospital receiving treatment for serious injuries.
Mrs. Clara Dodge, of Little Heart’s Ease, a passenger in a car driven by her husband, succumbed to her wounds while Jean Seaward, daughter of Mrs. John Slade of Clarenville, also a passenger in the same car is being treated for head and leg injuries and a fractured pelvis.
Blanche Drodge, a passenger in the other vehicle driven by Bill Lethbridge, both of Clarenville, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Drodge. She received broken ribs and a broken leg.
Both drivers have been released from hospital.

- Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Price and Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bourgeois and son Paul, Jr. from Mass., USA were guests of Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Soper for a week during October
- Miss Doris Norris has returned home from St. John’s where she spent some time in hospital and also receiving medical treatment.
- Miss Doreen Jacobs has returned home from St. John’s where she spent some time in the General Hospital. Her mother, Mrs. Leslie Jacobs, visited her while she was in hospital.
- Mr. Lionel Norris and son, Murdock recently visited relatives at Grand Falls.
- Mr. Arthur Butt, Mr. Arthur Baker and Mr. Eldred recently spent a weekend home from Stephenville where they are employed.
- Mrs. Frank Norris spent a week in St. John’s recently. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Benson accompanied her home.
- Karen Norris, Calvin Baker, Eric Soper and Annie Soper were home for the Armistice holiday.
- Belle and Vera Whalen spent a weekend home with their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Smith.
- Mr. and Mrs. William Smith are the proud grandparents of twin boys born to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Whalen, formerly of North West Brook, but now living in St. John’s. Mrs. Smith recently journey to St. John’s to see her young grandsons.
- Calvin Soper spent some time in Walwyn Hospital after he fell and injured his head.
- Miss Sophie May of Pool’s Cove, Fortune Bay, who is employed at Walwyn Hospital, recently spent a weekend with Mr. and Mrs. William Norris and family.
- A stork shower was held for Mrs. Lon Bursey at her home.
- Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Soper visited St. John’s on a business trip.
- A birthday party was held on November 22nd for Doris Norris.
- Mr. Samuel Brown has spent some time in hospital in St. John’s
- Susie Branton and family, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Brown, visited from Arnold’s Cove on the weekend of November 20th.
- Mr. Joseph Bursey, who has spent some time in hospital at St. John’s, now has to visit doctors on the mainland.
- Carl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Smith, has now returned home after spending some time in hospital in St. John’s.
- A baby boy, Craig Naboth, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Donald Keats.

Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Vey of Long Beach will celebrate their fifth wedding anniversary on December 27th.

Green-Vardy – the marriage was solemnized at Clarenville United Church when Betty Green, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Green of Caplin Cove became the bridge of Stanley Vardy, son of Mrs. Alice and the late William Vardy of Clarenville.
Mrs. Hilda Bowan of Carbonear was maid of honor and Hilda Genge of Gander was bridesmaid.
The duties of best men were carried out by Ted Lethbridge of Clarenville assisted by Cyril Baker of Caplin Cove.
The reception was held at the Canadian Legion Hall, Clarenville.
