Former residents of Hillview have family re-union in Boston – three brothers and their wives –Enoch and Louise Green of Clarenville, Doug and Mary Green of Deep Bight, and Ronald and Netta Green of Bishop’s Falls, motored to Boston recently to see their brother Andrew and his wife Jennie. This is the first time in 40 years that the family has been together. During their stay two of the brothers, Enoch and Ronald, celebrated their birthdays.

- Married at Long Beach on October 8th, Betty daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Avery to Samuel Feltham, son of Mr. Linbergh Feltham of Clarenville. Reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents. The young couple are residing in Clarenville.
- Married at Long Beach on October 20th, Ida Avery, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Avery to Cater King, son of Mr. and Mrs. William King of Clarenville. The reception was held at the home of the groom in Clarenville.
- Engagement: Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Vey of Long Beach wish to announce the engagement of their daughter Myra to Levi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Churchill of Hodge’s Cove.

- Congratulations to the following who were successful in passing the public examinations: Rosie Dean, Grade IX; Joan Smith, Harvey Avery, Claribel Avery and Lawrence Lambert in Grade X.
- Leslie Dean is attending Memorial University this year, he is a second year student. Claribel Avery and Rosie Dean are attending high school at Bay Roberts.
- Congratulations to Austin and Barry Pelley of Harcourt in passing their Grade IX examinations. Greetings from Mrs. Simeon Dean of Southport.
- Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Hayward Avery on the birth of a baby boy at Walwyn Hospital recently.

- The funeral of Cecil Critch took place on September 13th from the church of St. Michael of all Angels in the Anglican cemetery with the largest congregation ever witnessed in the history of Hillview.
- Chris Smith, who was transferred from Burin Cottage Hospital to the General Hospital in St. John’s, is home in Port au Bras and is feeling well after undergoing emergency surgery.
- Wilbert Stoyles spent a few weeks home. He has returned to Labrador City where he has been employed for a number of years.
- Mrs. Wm. H. Stoyles spent a couple of days at Gander. She was accompanied by her two sons Bram and Reg and Nelson Marsh.
- Some people of Hillview attended the one hundredth anniversary of St. Stephen’s Church at Salvage. Among the many clergy and Bishops was Reverend Joseph W. Taylor who spent over five years in Random Mission. A banquet was held in the parish hall on September 27th to celebrate the occasion.
- Get well wishes to David L. Stoyles who is a patient in the General Hospital following a car accident on September 11th and to Miss Ruby Bishop of Hatchet Cove who was injured at the same time. They are both improving. David was home on furlough from the Navy when the accident occurred.
- The many friends of Mrs. Maria Lambert of Hatchet Cove wish her a speedy recovery
- The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Rice was christened in the Anglican Church on Sunday, October 3rd and was given the name Jacqueline Regina. The godparents were Mr. and Mrs. Edmund A. Lambert and Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Churchill.

- Mr. and Mrs. Ben Smith of Hillview celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on October 2nd. They were married in 1924 in the Anglican Cathedral in St. John’s. They have seven children of whom Mrs. Hector Plougman is a daughter.
- Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Cooper of Queen’s Cove will celebrate their 53rd wedding anniversary on October 30th.
