Queen’s Cove
The following men arrived home from Badger during the week: Albert Whelan, Allen Whalen, William Whalen, Caplin Cove; Ralph Drodge, Robt. Smith, Little Heart’s Ease; John Butt, Wallace Peddle, Hodge’s Cove; and Lesle Jacobs, Hatchet Cove.
Caleb Churchill, Hodge’s Cove, who has been in St. John’s for the past week, returned home recently.
Walter Stacey of Little Heart’s Ease returned from Deer Lake during the week. He was employed with the Bowater Co.
Reverend M. C. M. Jones, Church of England Minister of Hodge’s Cove, spent Friday night here enroute to Sunnyside, at which place he held Divine Services on Sunday.
Congratulations are extended to Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bailey, North West Brook, and to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Spurrell, Butter Cove, on the birth of sons during the week.
Mr. and Mrs. Rowsell, Port Blandford, here on Monday, enroute to Hodge’s Cove, where they will spend a holiday with their daughter Mrs. Jones, wife of the Anglican Minister of the place.
Ronald Avery and Noah Lambert of Southport, and George Spurrell, and Charles Spurrell of Butter Cove, arrived here on the mail boat on Tuesday, enroute to Bishop’s Falls where they will be engaged in the lumber woods.
Mr. and Mrs. Moses Spurrell of Southport, will have the sympathy of their many friends on the loss of their daughter Joyce, who passed away on February 2. Joyce was one of the twin girls born on Christmas Day.
Carson Whalen of Caplin Cove visited here on Monday.
The wedding of Miss Annie Boone to Mr. Alec Peddle, both of Hodge’s Cove, took place at that place on February 21. Best wishes are extended.
Bramwell Smith of Hodge’s Cove, and Ted Martin of Little Heart’s Ease, arrived here on Monday by the express from Terra Nova, where they were engaged in the logging business with the A.N.D. Co.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Norris, North West Brook, entertained a number of young people at their home on Thursday night, and a good time was had by all.
A birthday party was given to Misses Ethel and Vinie Goobie at the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chesley’ Goobie on Monday night. In spite of the inclement weather, all the young folks were there and a good time was had by all.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward Gregory visited Island Cove on Sunday.
Miss Mildred Goobie and Alstead Gosse, spent Sunday with friends in Long Beach.
Mr. and Mrs. Chesley Goobie spent the weekend at Loreburn visiting Mrs. Goobie’s parents Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Meadus.
Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Button visited Long Beach over the weekend.
Miss Blanche Barfitt of Long Beach is visiting St. John’s.
Inspector Button left by Monday’s train for St. John’s on official business.
