Where Once They Logged

The Southwest Arm Historical Society is hosting a commemorative ceremony to honour the 71 men who became lumberjacks on the hillsides of Scotland during WWII. These men enlisted and served with the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit (NOFU). In addition to the loggers, three women who served with the British Army Unit known as the Auxiliary Territorial Service (ATS) will be recognized and honoured.

The ceremony will be held on October 16, 2021 at 11:00 a.m at the Lions Club, Hodge’s Cove, for invited guests.

The general public is invited to drop by the Lions Club between 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. to view the 74 wall banners and displays. At this time the commemorative booklets will be available for purchase and pick-up.
